Valier Monument
The Valier funeral monument (1705-08) was created in the Baroque style by Andrea Tirali with the aid of Giovanni Bonazza, Antonio Tarsia, and Pietro Baratta, three of the finest sculptors of their day.
It was erected for Doge Bertuccio Valier (r. 1656-8), his son Doge Silvestro Valier (r. 1694-1700) and the latter's wife Elisabetta Querini. Their three statues were carved by Pietro Baratta. The beautiful sculpture of Virtue crowning Merit was carved by Giovanni Bonazza. |
