San Simeone Piccolo
San Simeone Piccolo, which is the first church to greet visitors arriving in Venice by train, is also one of the city's youngest.
San Simeone Piccolo, also known as Santi Simeone e Giuda, was built between 1718 and 1738 by Giovanni Antonio Scalfarotto, who drew inspiration from several sources. The pronaos, for instance, is redolent of that of the Pantheon in Rome, while the high dome recalls that of Santa Maria Salute. |
