Sant'Angelo degli Zoppi
Open: Saturday morning.
Tucked away in a corner of the Campo Sant'Angelo is the tiny church of Sant'Angelo degli Zoppi, also known as the Oratorio dell'Annunziata. The 18th century church was once used by the Confraternita dei Soti (zoppi), which provided assistance to disabled seamen (zoppo means lame).
One of the two vere da pozzo (well-heads) in the adjacent Campo Sant'Angelo is carved with images of the Angel of the Annunciation and the Virgin Mary. |
