Palazzo Contarini-Fasan
Map.
The 15th century Palazzo Contarini-Fasan, no more than a room wide, is one of the smallest Gothic palaces on the Grand Canal. The balustrades of its balconies are carved with a delicate wheel motif not found in other Venetian balconies of the period.
The palace, which is often referred to as the 'The House of Desdemona', (no one knows exactly why), once belonged to a member of the Contarini family who was fond of shooting pheasants (fasan). |
