Ponte de le Tete
The Ponte de le Tete might not be one of the most beautiful bridges in Venice, but its name has certainly made it one of the most famous.
The bridge is located at the edge of the Carampane, which, for centuries, was Venice's red-light district. The prostitutes would stand out on their balconies with their breasts (tete) bared to attract passers-by. The practise was supported by the government, who were keen to stop men from practising sodomy. |
