The Palazzo Cini houses the collection of works of art which belonged to Vittorio Cini (1885-1977), industrialist, politician and philanthropist.
The paintings are by mainly Tuscan artists (Taddeo Gaddi, Botticelli and Pontormo) and range in date from the thirteenth to the sixteenth century. There are also some fine examples of the decorative arts, notably a fourteenth century marriage chest, or cassone, once part of the trousseau of a bride from Siena. The collection is laid out in rooms on the piano nobile of the palace (once called the Palazzo Foscari), which Cini acquired in 1919. |
