Sant' Agnese
Map.
The church of Sant'Agnese may have been founded as early as the 10th century. In 1105 it was destroyed by fire, rebuilt and reconsecrated (1321). The interior has a nave and two side aisles.
In 1810 the parish of Sant' Agnese was suppressed, the church became a warehouse and all of its interior fittings were lost or destroyed. In 1839 the building was acquired by two brothers by the name of Cavanis, who established an oratory here. The church was heavily restored and reopened in 1872. The 12th century campanile was mostly destroyed in 1837. Its base remains, topped by a Roman style belfry. |
