Casa dei 'Tre Oci'
Map.
The Casa dei 'Tre Oci' (House of Three Eyes) is the popular name for the Palazzo Minelli, which was designed in the neo-gothic style by the artist Mario de Maria (1852-1924) and built in 1913. The painter was from Bologna and the house was intended to be his Venetian address.
The Palazzo Minelli was expressly designed to commemorate both the living and the dead. Shortly before it was built, Mario de Maria's young daughter died. The three large windows (which give the casa its name) represent the surviving members of his family (Mario, his wife and son), while the small two-light window at the top of the house represents Silvia, the daughter he had lost. Since 2012 the Casa dei 'Tre Oci' has been a venue for photographic exhibitions. |
