The Museo Storico Navale, or Naval Museum, is housed in one of the old granaries of the Republic, close to the Arsenale. This fascinating museum commemorates, through a rich and attractively displayed collection, the naval history of both Venice and Italy. 

The first floor contains a 19th century model of the Bucintoro, the doge's ceremonial barge, in which he sailed when celebrating the annual marriage (Sposalizio del Mare) of Venice to the sea. 

The third floor has a permanent exhibition devoted to the gondola, which includes the one once owned by Peggy Guggenheim, the American heiress, art collector and socialite, who lived in Venice for many years.
