San Lio
The church of San Lio dates back to the 9th century when it was dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria. In 1054 it was rededicated to Saint Leone (San Lio in Venetian dialect) in honour of Pope Saint Leo IV.
San Lio, which underwent major reconstructions in the 15th and 18th centuries, boasts paintings by Titian and Palma il Vecchio, a ceiling frescoed by Giandomenico Tiepolo and sculptures by members of the Lombardo family. The interior comprises a nave without aisles and a chancel flanked by two chapels. |
