Oratorio dei Crociferi
The Oratorio dei Crociferi was once part of a hospital, which was founded in 1268 by Doge Renier Zen for the relief of returning crusaders. Three centuries later it was enlarged by Doge Pasquale Cicogna ((1585-95) and became a hospice for the aged. The walls of the oratory are decorated with eight paintings illustrating the history of the hospital, the work of Palma il Giovane.
There is a beautiful relief of the Virgin and Child over the south portal. |
