Cassa di Risparmio di Venezia
The Cassa di Risparmio di Venezia (Savings Bank of Venice), which stands in the Campo Manin, is a rare example of a modern building to be found in the heart of Venice. The bank, the oldest of its kind in Italy, first erected a building on this site in 1906.
In 1964 a controversial design for a new building was put forward by Pier Luigi Nervi and Angelo Scattolin. The design managed to get through the planning authorities and the new bank was built between 1964 and 1971. Nervi was responsible for the design of the interior, while Scattolin was responsible for the façade. |
