Santa Maria della Misericordia
Founded in the 10th century, the church of Santa Maria della Misericordia is also known as Santa Maria di Val Verde, after the island on which it was constructed.
The church was rebuilt in the 13th century and in 1348 it passed to the patronage of the Moro family. In 1659 the present façade was added by the architect Clementi Moli and financed by Gaspare Moro, whose portrait bust we see above the portal. Moli carved the bust and all of the other sculptures on the façade. Since the beginning of the 19th century, the church has had a chequered history and all of its works of art have been dispersed. Today, the church is in private hands. |
