Molino Stucky
The western end of the Giudecca is dominated by the Molino Stucky, a large flour mill, which, in terms of its style, appears more German or English than Venetian.
The factory was, in fact built in 1896 by the German architect Ernest Wullekopf for Giovanni Stucky, a Swiss-Italian entrepreneur and financier. The mill ceased activity in the 1950s and for decades the building remained empty. A few years ago it was acquired by the Hilton group, which turned it into the Hilton Molino Stucky, the only hotel in Venice to have a rooftop pool. |
