Map
San Lorenzo was founded in the 9th century under Doge Angelo Partecipazio. Destroyed by fire in 1105, the church was rebuilt and restored several times before it acquired its present form in 1595.
The interior comprises a single nave divided by three arches into two parts, one for the congregation and one for the nuns' choir..
The church was badly damaged during the Great War and has never been repaired.
Marco Polo (1254-1324) was buried in the former portico of San Lorenzo, but his sarcophagus was lost during the rebuilding of the church at the end of the 16th century.
