San Giovanni in Bragora
Open: 9-11/15.30-17. Sunday: 9.30-12.
No one seems to know why the church of San Giovanni in Bragora (San Zuane in Bragora) is so called. In Venetian dialect bragola means marketplace and bragolare to sell fish. Perhaps, there was once a small fish market in the campo outside the church.
San Giovanni in Bragora, which was built in the late 15th century, comprises a nave and two aisles flanked by chapels. The apse is also flanked by two chapels. The church is, perhaps, most famous for its connection with Antonio Vivaldi, who was baptised here on May 6th, 1678.

Not to be missed:
- The high altar is decorated with a fine painting of The Baptism of Christ (1494) by Cima da Conegliano (1459-1517).
- On the wall of the north aisle there is a triptych of the Virgin Enthroned, Saint John the Baptist and Saint Andrew (1478), the work of Bartolomeo Vivarini (c.1432-c.1499).
