San Giuseppe di Castello

The monastic church of San Giuseppe di Castello, or Sant' Isepo in Venetian dialect, was built at the beginning of the 16th century. The interior comprises a nave without aisles and a chancel flanked by two chapels. The nave ceiling was frescoed by Pietro Ricchi and Antonio Torriglia. The quadratura was painted by Torriglia, while Saint Joseph in Glory is the work of Ricchi. The high altar is adorned with a painting of the Adoration of the Shepherds by Veronese. The same theme is depicted in a stone relief over the entrance, the work of Giulio del Moro.
The grandiose, floor-to-ceiling, tomb of Doge Marino Grimani (1595-1605) and his consort Morosina Morosini was designed at the end of the 1500s by Vincenzo Scamozzi. The sculptures are by Gerolamo Campagna.
